Professional Profile

I qualified with a B.Sc(Eng) Land Survey from the University of the Witwatersrand in 1981. I then did my articles with the company Gillespie, Archibald and Partners, Land Surveyors and Planners, and in 1984 I completed my articles and was admitted as a Professional Land Surveyor to what was then called the Central Council of Land Surveyors, presently the South African Geomatics Council.

In 1985 I was made a partner in the company Gillespie, Archibald and Partners, and I was part of the firm until September, 2015. Having left Gillespie, Archibald and Partners, I now practice under my own name as AP GEOMATICS.

I have been a member of the Institute of Land Surveyors of the Transvaal, now called the South African Geomatics Institute which has taken over its role, since my student days, initially as a student member and, since 1984, a full member.

Fields of Expertise

My field of expertise covers all land survey projects, with special emphasis on the land registration process, and the preparation of documents for the Surveyor Generals office and registration at the Deeds office.

While I have done all forms of survey, I have had extensive experience in the following, specifically in the Gauteng/Ekurhuleni area:

1) Preparation of diagrams for subdivisions, consolidations, servitudes, roads

2) Preparation of general plans for township establishment

3) Sectional title plans, both in the creation of schemes and the extension of existing schemes

4) Confirmation of consents for submission with the above documentation to the Surveyor General

5) Site surveying and preparation of tacheometric plans, and site plans

6) Setting out of buildings and site infrastructure

7) Relocations of beacons and reconstitution of boundaries

8) Measurement of Dellville Swimming pool for ratification of Roland Schoeman’s world record in 2008

9) I have had extensive experience in setting out works, contouring and volumetric surveys

While I do not practice as a town planner, I have also had extensive experience in the preparation of town planning applications to the local authorities. I have an in depth knowledge of the present legislation pertaining to land registration.

CAREER OBJECTIVE

My intention is to continue to provide the same high standard of accurate, professional, ethical work, which I have done over the past 34+ years. I firmly believe in the saying “Check and then check again!”
